Time for Change

Fall is a time of great change.

I always find the time between late spring and early fall a little stagnant.  Summer becomes worn.  Once the leaves are fully out, and the fresh green starts to fade, insects punch holes through mature leaves and we are left with a visage that's a little ragged.

Autumn, of course, brings with it increased wear.  The garden is winding down, leaves are turning and dying.  The daily weather is not the predictable sunny, sparkling days of July and August that we have become accustomed to.

Cooler air foreshadows winter to come, and rainy spells can feel lonely and sad instead of cozy and peaceful.

Mindset, of course plays a role in all of these changes.  I am facing a change right now that I'm not overly comfortable with,  and I suppose that is clouding my view.

While I welcome the fall and new opportunities to learn, I miss my summer cocoon.  I miss predictability, even though at the same time I often wished for change.

What's that old saying?  Be careful what you wish for - you just might get it.

Welcome

Today is the first day of fall, and it has brought with it decidedly Autumn-like weather.  Rain all day, interspersed with a wicked wind, and strange sunny periods.

A time of great change.

And with change, there is hope.

I hope wherever you are, you are cosied up with loved ones and happy thoughts.

Welcome to fall.

Dramatics

What's the difference between the feeling of making a monumental mistake and just being unsure?

How do you know if the fog of uncertainty is clouding your point of view, or if that feeling in the pit of your stomach isn't just doubt, but a premonition of bad times to come?

How can you reconcile the changes you are facing with your happy existing life?

When the rug is being swept out from underneath you, how do you find your new normal?

The sun comes up and we start again.

The pictures today were all taken during a dramatic sunrise this morning.  The clouds were on fire.

"Then Labor Day came and went...

...and we shed what was left of our summer skin."

Fall isn't here yet, but it's in the air.

It's in the quiet, calm waters of Maple Lake.  It's in the wood smoke in the air in the evening.  It's in the absolute absence of any other human made noise, and of course it's in the first turned leaves.

Autumn doesn't officially arrive until September 22nd, but I'm still welcoming these early signs with wide open arms.
