Old Fashioned Winter

In case you hadn't heard, it's snowing.  And it's mighty cold.

It's snowing much that my husband is spending the better part of many days just plowing and snow-blowing.  I do love it all, but I don't love the work it creates, and if I wasn't on maternity leave this year (meaning, I don't have to go anywhere if I don't feel like it), I'd be cursing it.

Many people are calling it an old-fashioned winter, and while I don't really agree with that statement, it has been a very different year.  It has been incredibly cold and we have received an unbelievable amount of snow.  Those two things generally don't go hand in hand.

I wonder what the remainder of winter will bring.  Every time I think it can't possibly snow more, or get any colder, it does.  I hope you are able to snuggle up warm and safe out of the blustery days.

Wild

We are in the midst of a wild and blustery night on Maple Lake.  The wind is howling, the snow is horizontal and the way the large tree trunks are shifting around outside the windows makes me very nervous.

Stormy nights are good for popping popcron and snuggling up with a good book or movie - and for hoping that the weather clears before you are due to be anywhere the next day.

We're Having a Heat Wave...

...a tropical heat wave.

It's 24C out there right now!  Just got back from the park, to which I wore shorts and flip flops.  Is this real life?

I'm still waiting, though.  It's out there.  Winter's last hurrah.  I can feel it.  Out running in the evening, when I pass into the shadows, or run by a snowy hollow, the cold is there, laying in wait.  It hits me, fresh and shocking, a reminder of early spring snowstorms to come.

My husband thinks we have at least a late March, and maybe an April storm in store for us.  I'm not sure what will happen, but I do  know that as soon as I put out my spring porch decorations, snow is sure to come.

I'll let you know my plans.
