Ice Out

As I mentioned in my last post, while it SEEMS we are quite far behind last year in terms of Spring getting started, we really aren't.  The ice is out, only 4 days behind last year.  Now, we do still have a small pile of snow in the front, and there is still some in the deep bush, that is only because of the vast amount we received this year.

I took a hike through the bush last week and was struck by how quickly everything changes once the snow is gone (or almost gone).  The air was permeated with the smell of wild leeks sprouting and the sound of ephemeral streams.

And the Sun Returns

After a week of rain and ice (yes, ice) the sun has returned this morning.

The blackflies are still nagging us with their presence and temperatures have been less than favourable for getting rid of them.

I really don't mind the rain - and we needed some, and the cooler temperatures don't bother me, but I am pleased to see the sun this morning.

The Longest Weekend

I'm sure what I'm about to write won't go over to well with some readers.  That's fine.  I'm sure I sound like a grumpy old man who is shaking his fist.  I've come to terms with that.  Maybe I just hate fun.  Maybe.

The first long weekend of the summer is upon us, and once again I need to complain.

Cottagers.

Cottagers punctuate my perfect peace and congest my daily activities.

Once again, I long for the work week to return, and better yet, Labour Day.

Three

We are commencing our third year on Maple Lake and it still seems to me as if we've just arrived.

It never fails to surprise me how much faster time moves as I get older.

There is still much to be done around the house and property.  There is still so much to be explored, as well.

My exploring days are on hold for the next little while, but I think I can get by with the view from my deck.

I'm Here

...and so are the bugs.

I find the days passing so fast lately, and I hardly have time to sit down and write.  Or think, for that matter.

I have five more weeks before my due date, and things are feeling pretty busy right now.

The greening of the land has begun - leaves are springing out on the trees and with the next few days of rain fore casted, the grass and other plants will start growing very quickly.

I hope that you are enjoying these lovely days that spring has finally bestowed upon us.  Right now everything is alive with possibility, all is fresh and green, but soon enough the summer heat will be here.  Enjoy these last few weeks of spring while you can.
